Your San Francisco adventure begins at the infamous Alcatraz prison, once home to some of America’s most dangerous felons. The next day, enjoy a unique private tour of the city as you explore the sights in a vintage Volkswagen bus. Small enough to navigate the city’s winding streets, this is a cool and unique way to experience the City by the Bay. Highlights of this tours include the charming Coit Tower, Palace of Fine Arts, Twin Peaks and the Sutro Baths and Cliff House. Itinerary

DAY 1: SAN FRANCISCO

Meet your private driver at baggage claim for a transfer to your San Francisco hotel.

Depart from your hotel with a private driver for a transfer to Pier 33 where you’ll catch the ferry to Alcatraz for a unique experience tonight. Along the way across the bay, gain insight into the backstory of this mysterious histoirical site with on board commentary. Hear stories of attempted escapes where prisoners tried to leave this island that’s only reachable by boat. Once on the island, walk at your own pace with an auditory guide called “Doing Time: The Alcatraz Cellhouse Tour”. This award-winning presentation will engage your senses as you imagine life inside the prison. Stories are told by real prisoners and the correctional officers who worked and lived on Alcatraz. Return to the mainland by ferry upon conclusion of your tour and meet your private driver for a transfer back to your hotel.

DAY 2: SAN FRANCISCO

Small enough to navigate the city’s winding streets, this is a cool and unique way to experience the City by the Bay. First stop at the charming Coit Tower for sweeping views of the city from a premium vantage point. From there, take your VW bus downhill to take a moment at the picturesque Palace of Fine Arts with its monumental architecture. Venture down to the bay to visit a historic masonry, Fort Point, where you can gaze up at the mighty art deco Golden Gate Bridge connecting San Francisco to Marin County. Follow the coastline to the Sutro Baths and Cliff House which was once a popular spot for locals before its closure to the public, now it provides sweeping views of the Gulf of the Farallones.  Lastly, your driver-guide will take you to Twin Peaks for spectacular views of San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area as a whole. DAY 3: SAN FRANCISCO

Along the way, your guide will teach you all about the beauty and topography of the Muir Woods. Upon arrival, enjoy a walk throughout the Muir Woods. DAY 4: SAN FRANCISCO

Join your driver-guide in the lobby of your hotel and get ready to explore the beautiful sights of Carmel and Monterey on this serene full-day tour. Your driver-guide will take you along the famous Pacific Coast Highway, California Highway 1, sharing some of the history of the area as you take in the awe-inspiring views. Visit Cannary Row in Monterey, made famous by John Steinbeck, strolling along the shops, seeking out a fresh seafood lunch, or perhaps just wandering along Ocean View Boulevard all the way to Lover’s Point Beach. If you wish to get up-close to colorful marine life, your guide can take you to the famed Monterey Bay Aquarium where you can either walk around freely or take a guided tour. Next it’s on to the charming little town of Pacific Grove on the way to Pebble Beach, via the 17-Mile Drive. This iconic road winds its way between magnificent homes and the sublime coastline, between the lush green lawns of world-famous golf courses like Spyglass Hill, and among the last remaining forest of the rare Monterey Cyprus Tree, sculpted into dynamic shapes by the persistent Pacific breezes. Upon arrival into the captivating town of Carmel-by-the-Sea, enjoy time to explore the boutique shops on Ocean Avenue or experience the serenity of the white sandy beach. Stop by the historic Carmel Mission on your way to a superb wine tasting before spending time on your own for dinner, perhaps choosing to dine at Mission Ranch, a hub of American comfort food served in farmhouse restored by Clint Eastwood. Your tour concludes with a private transfer back to your San Francisco hotel.

  • Your deposit is due immediately on booking (30% of program price, minimum $350). The balance is due 90 days prior to departure.
  • Cancellations of confirmed bookings 90 days or more prior to departure will receive full refund minus a $350 (per person) administrative fee and any non-refundable paid fees (e.g. non-refundable airfare, cruise or hotel deposits). 60-89 days will be subject to loss of 30% of program price. 30-59 days will be subject to loss of 50% of program price. 29 days or less will be subject to loss of 100% of program price.
  • Tour quotes do not include airfare to/from the trip start point unless noted on the itinerary
  • Cost increases in currency exchange, government fees, taxes, surcharges or hotel/lodge tariff increases between quote date and start date are payable by the client.
  • Availability cannot be guaranteed until booked. We will exercise best efforts to book hotels per the itinerary, however, in busy seasons and with client bookings made within 90 days of tour date we may be forced to offer substitutes.
